Senior Mechanical Engineer
Mine Vision Systems is a mining technology company building the decision-making platform for underground mining. We introduce high-fidelity data into the mining workflow that has simply never existed before, enabling operators to move from assumptions to evidence-based decisions. Our digital infrastructure is designed to map, monitor, and manage the underground mining environment with confidence, creating a persistent, data-rich foundation for operational and strategic decision-making. Since the launch of our flagship product, FaceCapture, in late 2023, adoption has accelerated rapidly as customers realize the value of truly understanding their underground operations.
We focus on underground mining of critical minerals and precious metals, where small improvements in accuracy and insight drive outsized returns. Our technology delivers millions of dollars in annual value by minimizing overbreak, improving ore calls, enhancing resource models, and enabling a growing set of high-impact applications across the mine lifecycle. By transforming raw underground data into actionable intelligence, Mine Vision Systems empowers mining teams to operate more efficiently, more predictably, and with greater confidence than ever before.
About the role
We’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with deep experience in electromechanical hardware development and manufacturing to design and scale our next generation of products. You’ll lead field performance and manufacturability improvements of existing products and lead blank-sheet designs for new products. This role sits at the intersection of hardware, electrical, software, and product design and requires broad industry experience and strong cross-disciplinary communication.
What you’ll do
- Identify and prioritize product improvement opportunities using field, customer, and manufacturing data
- Design, prototype, validate, and test engineering changes and new electromechanical products for manufacturability and field reliability
- Own DFx/DFM activities: BOM creation and management, tolerance stacks, supplier selection, configuration/revision management, and cost/quality tradeoffs
- Lead supplier and contract manufacturer interactions to ensure timely production ramp, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement
- Establish and enforce rigorous test, validation, and performance optimization practices to ensure reliability in harsh mine environments
- Troubleshoot complex product issues across mechanical, electrical, and firmware domains, and coordinate remediation with cross-functional teams and customers
- Mentor and raise the technical bar for other engineers on the hardware team
Required qualifications
- 10+ years of industry experience designing, prototyping, and producing complex electromechanical products
- B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Expert proficiency with CAD (parts and assembly modeling) and the ability to produce 2D/3D manufacturing deliverables, manage design revisions , and BOMs generation
- Strong hands-on skills with hand and power tools and a willingness to work in lab and field environments
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electromechanical systems and apply structured problem-solving methodologies
- Experience working with contract manufacturers to ramp volume production of electronics enclosures, machined components, molded parts, and soft goods
- Excellent written and verbal communication — able to explain technical tradeoffs to engineers and non-engineers
- Must be based in the greater Pittsburgh area or willing to relocate/commute regularly and have access to a vehicle. Travel up to 10% per year is expected.
Desirable qualifications
- Experienced SolidWorks user with experience generating BOMs, working with imported PCBAs, and using PDM systems
- Familiarity with Linux and the terminal for debugging connected devices
- Background in reliability engineering, environmental sealing, thermal design, or vibration testing
- Experience with injection molding, sheet metal, machining, or overmolding and working with CM/QA teams.
Nice to have
- Portfolio of past projects (professional and/or personal)
- Experience in mining, heavy industry, sewer, or other extreme-environment products
- A strongly pragmatic, “get it done” mindset and comfort with ambiguity
Why this role matters
The hardware you design will operate in harsh production mines around the world where durability and reliability are critical. You will be central to a multidisciplinary effort to scale proven products, launch new products, and continuously improve field performance. You’ll have the chance to see real systems in the field and make an immediate impact.
Benefits
- We are a fast paced and growing company with real robotic hardware in the field around the world, generating actual revenue
- Competitive compensation and full benefits: medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401(k) with match
- Uncounted PTO policy and flexible hybrid work model
- Small, fast-moving team with hands-on work and immediate impact
